Applied Discovery offers a complete Data Collection and Forensics Team, with our experienced data collection and forensics engineers distributed throughout the country. Applied Discovery is
Safe
Harbor certified by the U.S. Department of Commerce based on standards it developed in consultation with the European Commission. We can efficiently collect data from virtually any location worldwide and perform any forensic analysis your projects might require.
Data Reduction/Filtering
The Applied Discovery data reduction processes save clients time and money by helping them process only the data that is responsive to their specifications. We are able to cull out common system files up front, and by utilizing indexing technology by FAST (a Microsoft® subsidiary) Applied Discovery can provide robust and flexible filtering using terms, phrases, dates, Boolean strings, and selected filetypes or custodians. Project managers help clients finalize filtering requirements using detailed pre-processing “hit reports.”
Data Processing
Applied Discovery uses proprietary processing technology to extract and preserve metadata and process documents using high-capacity grid architecture that translates to industry-leading timeframes and unmatched scalability. We process all documents to PDFs, which offer reviewers a number of benefits, including:
-
The ability to perform privilege review with redactions
-
Smaller file sizes which allow for fast document-to-document movement
-
Full color images, with the same formatting and “look and feel” as the native documents
-
In-document searchability equivalent to the original electronic document
-
Petrified, “locked down” versions of data
-
Bates numbering for production
Applied Discovery also cross links the native files, so that reviewers can examine native file documents when they choose.
Online Review
We designed our award-winning Online Review Application (“ORA”) from the ground up to be intuitive and facilitate efficient, powerful review. Its “point-and-click” functionality enables even the least technical reviewer to become an electronic discovery pro with less than an hour of training. The ORA builds in functionality to support virtually all your review needs, including the ability to search, review (including metadata), tag/code, annotate, redact, Bates number, and even batch-produce/print documents.
In addition to allowing review of PDFs and the natives of documents, as described above, the ORA’s advanced functionality includes:
Intuitive Design: Our ORA was designed by attorneys and legal professionals for attorneys and legal professionals. Its simple to use, powerful interface requires only minimal training and reduces human error.
Contention Free Architecture: Our processing resources do not impact review databases resulting in the ability to process massive quantities of data without any slowdown of the review experience for your team, no matter how many of your reviewers are in the database at a time, and no matter how large your data set.
“More Like This” ™ Searching: Based on advanced algorithm technologies Applied Discovery allows reviewers to quickly locate and review conceptually and textually similar documents.
Secure Web-based Architecture: The ORA is accessible by authorized users using their secured credentials from any Internet Explorer browser.
Advanced/Flexible Reporting: Clients can run many advanced administrative and cross reference reports (including privilege logs) on-demand, and can work with their dedicated project manager to develop unique reports tailored to their specific needs.
Bulk Tagging: The ORA supports multiple methods of bulk/batch tagging to increase review efficiency, including:
Conceptually similar documents (“More Like This”™ functionality) Search Results Duplicate documents Family groups Outlook email conversation threads
Privilege Review Functionality: allows for faster, more thorough privilege reviews while reducing risk of waiver by ensuring greater consistency in work product.
Custom Coded Data: Applied Discovery allows clients to create custom data fields to help manage documents with missing metadata (i.e. scanned documents) or inconsistent metadata (i.e. multiple names for a single author like J. Doe and John Doe). Custom coded data features include:
Predefine custom fields by type including text, date or drop down lists Application of custom coded data to duplicates Ability to search and view coded data in during document review
Advanced Review Management: Case administrators can plan and monitor large review projects with critical workflow and batching features including
Tools to define review project stages and objectives with the ability to assign access to document batches based on user profiles Intuitive monitoring dashboards and reporting to improve visibility
Repository Services
Our groundbreaking repository architecture allows our clients to maintain large document sets in a central repository while parsing out relevant subsets to front end databases for review, leveraging prior work product or privilege tagging as needed.
Clients can re-use data in additional matters without the need to reprocess it—thereby saving substantial time and money. Our repository functionality is a perfect solution for clients with multi-district and serial litigation, large defense group collaboration (sharing only the work product you choose), and regulatory matters that evolve into deeper inquiries and/or civil litigation.
